Innovation platforms are structures that bring together different stakeholders from the same area to identify solutions to common problems. They exist as long as necessary to handle existing challenges and new ones that might emerge during the process, and they take advantage of opportunities that help them create solutions to existing problems. Humidtropics Launches Research for Development Platform in Ethiopia
Humidtropics has been implementing action research activities in Ethiopia since 2014 through local innovation platforms established in two field sites in Jeldu and Diga districts in the western part of the country. These local innovation platforms were originally established in 2011 by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) as part of the Nile Basin Development Challenge (NBDC) project, which implemented natural resource management interventions for three years in these field sites. The Humidtropics Case Study Competition brought together twelve individuals to document stories of innovation platforms from various countries in the developing world. A facilitated writeshop held at the Nairobi headquarters of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) from February 24-27, 2015, enabled participants to spend a week focused on writing–an often complex, challenging and isolating process.
