Biogas Technology Helps Manage Livestock Waste in Vietnam

17 December, 2014 by Aziz Karimov

It is known that animal waste produces methane gas, which is 25 times more harmful to the environment than carbon dioxide. According to some sources 78.500 million tons of animal waste is generated per year in Vietnam and quite a significant portion is dumped into the environment. A biogas plant stores the livestock manure in a brick dome-shaped tank and precludes … [Read more...]

Impacting Smallholder Agriculture in Ethiopia

17 October, 2014 by East and Central Africa Flagship Project

“Today I'm very happy to see the research outcomes on soil and water management practices reflected on the field, and to hear from the farmers how they appreciated the contribution of researchers. This is very significant for us and easy to scale out in the future. In this regard, Humidtropics and its Partners CIP, ILRI and IWMI did a very good job and served their purpose of striving to change lives, in particular in the areas where there are critical problems in natural resource management and shortage of fodder to feed livestock in the dry season” Dr. Hirpa Legesse, Wolega University, … [Read more...]

Central Vietnam R4D Platform and Action Site Launched

2 October, 2014 by Tassilo Tiemann

Humidtropics aims to address agricultural systems constraints in the humid tropics. In the Central Highlands of Vietnam, major agricultural challenges identified by researchers include soil degradation, physical water availability and market constraints. The overall aim at this early stage of the work under Humidtropcis is to inform partners, identify entry themes and research sites in a participatory process and prioritize research ideas. To this end, Humidtropics core Partners CIAT and ILRI launched a Research for Development (R4D) Platform and Action Site planning meeting in Boun Ma … [Read more...]
