Improving Nutrition and Dietary Diversity in Vietnam

9 September, 2014 by Jessica Raneri

Assessing the nutrition potential of diverse local foods I am currently working on a nutrition initiative through the CGIAR Research Program on Integrated Systems for the Humid Tropics (Humidtropics) to assess the potential of diverse local foods in Vietnam. We are looking at the potential of using diverse local foods to improve diet quality and diversity, especially for women of reproductive age and for children between 12-23 months. Malnutrition rates are high in Vietnam with a lack of dietary diversity thought to be a crucial factor. In the developing world diets often consist of … [Read more...]

The Case of Soybean as Agricultural System Connector

7 July, 2014 by Admin

At the beginning of its establishment, the Humidtropics Innovation Platform of the Kiboga and Kyankwanzi districts in Uganda identified the following commodities as important components of the main farming system: maize, soybean, agro-forestry and livestock (both districts selected poultry and piggery, and in Kyankwanzi, cattle was added as it is part of the wider cattle corridor in Uganda). Later on, they would start building up the system … [Read more...]

Thailand R4D Platform Launched

27 June, 2014 by Central Mekong Flagship Project

The abbot started a local crop diversification program that … [Read more...]

Territorial Learning Alliances and Quick Wins in Nicaragua

27 June, 2014 by Shadi Azadegan

In 2013, Humidtropics adopted the concept of Flagship Projects as the main vehicle through which the Program will carry out its research to achieve the Intermediate Development Outcomes. There are five Flagship Projects, of which one is mainstreamed to ensure coherence throughout the Program. The remaining four Flagship Projects are based on geographic location, including the Central America and the Caribbean Flagship, where the North Nicaragua (Nicanorte) Action Site is located. Within the Action Site, the Program is taking on a series of challenges, such as degraded soils, the reduction … [Read more...]
